Carl Zeitz

Carl Zeitz of Bordentown was nominated to the Commission by Governor Brendan T. Byrne for a term of three years as one of the first full-time commissioners.  He was sworn into office on August 28, 1980.

Prior to his appointment as commissioner, Zeitz was a journalist.  He worked for the Providence Journal before joining the Associated Press in Newark in 1968 and later moved to its Trenton Statehouse bureau.  After a brief stint helping to run a political campaign in 1978, he joined The Record and became its chief state political reporter and columnist in its Trenton bureau.

In 1983, Zeitz was reappointed by Governor Thomas H. Kean to a full five-year term on the Commission.  He was the first Commission member to be re-appointed to a second term.  He graduated from Hobart College and he served for two years in the U.S. Army prior to his journalism career.

Zeitz left the Commission in December 1988 and started his own consulting and lobbying firm.
